Birchwood HQ: Sustainable Office for Certas Energy

Certas Energy's objective was for us to create a dynamic, tech-forward office environment for its 120-strong workforce. The aim was to deliver a CAT B fit-out that would not only entice people back to the office, but also support a range of ways of working, from focus and concentration to collaboration, socialising, and large gatherings. 

 

Throughout the process, the design was guided by Certas’s ambitions around sustainability, natural materiality, and brand coherence.

• Agile hub layout: A central collaborative hub with a mix of seating types and work zones fosters agile movement and varied working modes. 

• Flexible breakout / “town hall” space: The main kitchen & breakout area is designed to convert into a gathering or exhibition zone by virtue of its layout, media wall and flexibility. 

• Biophilic palette & natural materials: Use of textured wallcoverings, natural finishes, organic shapes, and biophilic elements to root the interior in nature.

• Sustainably sourced furniture: Every item was chosen with its environmental story in mind—fabrics from recycled plastics, QR codes linking to sustainability credentials. 

• Brand-aligned narrative graphics: Bespoke wallpapers depicting crashing waves, atmospheric forests, and other nature scenes tie the interior to the Certas vision.
