Cheshire Manor House
Cheshire Manor House is a Grade II listed period residence set within the Cheshire countryside, full of architectural detail and historic charm — but with interiors that had become heavy, dated, and poorly connected to the way the owners wanted to live day-to-day.
The clients were looking for a long-term, timeless interior foundation: something calm and contemporary that respected the character of the building, while bringing greater clarity, warmth and usability to the main living spaces.
Our role at concept stage was to establish the interior architecture direction for the first phase of works — focusing on the arrival experience, the principal living rooms, and a more cohesive material and lighting language that could carry through the home over time.
Rather than chasing trend, the design approach centred on restraint: neutral architectural elements, refined texture, and subtle moments of modern contrast against the historic shell.
Design Focus
-
A lighter arrival experience: Rebalancing the entrance hall and stair with a softer palette, improved lighting, and architectural detailing that enhances the original proportions.
-
Timeless material foundation: Warm timber tones, stone neutrals and aged metal accents — creating a calm base that allows furniture, art and textiles to evolve over the years.
-
Cohesive ground floor flow: Spatial planning and zoning to make everyday living feel more intuitive, connected and generous within the existing footprint.
-
Heritage-sensitive modernity: Contemporary interventions introduced carefully, ensuring the home feels current without losing its period identity.
-
Lighting as atmosphere: Layered lighting design to lift darker areas of the house and create warmth across day and evening settings.
The Result
-
A clear interior vision for a modern, welcoming listed home
-
A refined palette and lighting strategy that enhances natural brightness
-
A coherent design framework that can scale across future renovation phases
-
A timeless foundation — modern in feel, respectful in character, and built for long-term family living
